Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer celebrated their son Gene David’s first birthday this past week with a party at home amid the COVID-19 lockdown. The comedian sent a family photo of the trio celebrating Gene’s first year to her fans, and she wrote in her message that lots of love was being sent their way.
Schumer also posted a pic on Instagram to commemorate Gene’s first birthday. The sweet pic featured the mother and son taking a nap together, and in the caption of that photo she wrote “I’m really glad it was you. Hbd.”

In the comments, Michael Rappaport wrote: “HAPPY BORN DAY Mean Gene🎁🎁,” while Kelly Rowland added: “Awwwwww!! Happy Birthday Handsome Guy!!😍.” Natalie Portman, Octavia Spencer, Padma Lakshmi, and Elizabeth Berkley also posted birthday messages for little Gene.
Recently, Schumer revealed on her podcast Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls, 1 Keith that she and Fischer had changed Gene’s name after realizing how his name sounded. Schumer and Fischer originally gave Gene the middle name of Atell in honor of Schumer’s friend, Dave Attell.
But, after realizing the name Gene Attell Fischer sounded a lot like “genital fissure,” Schumer and Fischer decided to make the change to Gene David.
“So do you guys know that Gene, our baby’s name is officially changed? It’s now Gene David Fischer,” revealed Schumer. “It was Gene Attell Fischer, but we realized that we by accident named our son ‘genital.’ ”
Schumer’s friend Claudio O’Doherty told Schumer on the podcast that her mom had pointed it out to her. O’Doherty said that her mom told her: “Amy’s called her son ‘genital.” She found it hard to believe, but then realized it was true.

The Trainwreck star opted for the middle name of David because the name does two things. First, it still honors her friend Dave Attell, which was what she tried to do with the original name. And, Schumer’s father Gordon also has the middle name of David.
While in quarantine, Amy Schumer has filmed a new series for the Food Network titled Amy Schumer Learns to Cook. Chris Fischer is an award-winning cookbook author who will actually be doing most of the cooking while using farm-fresh ingredients.
