On 3 March, Finland finally gave out its verdict for the final song for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.
As we reported earlier, Finland will be sending one of its most powerful singers, Saara Aalto, to showcase the country’s artistic talent in Lisbon in May. This year, Finnish broadcaster YLE made changes to the selection process and announced that Saara would be releasing three songs. Following the rule, last month, the singer released three electrifying songs – “Monsters”, “Domino” and “Queens”.
Using the national selection ‘Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu’, or #UMK18, it was decided that Aalto will be performing “Monsters” at the contest. The decision was made on the basis of both public as well as jury votes.
Monsters is written by Linnea Deb, Joy Deb, Saara Aalto and Ki Fitzgerald. It’s a party track that both portrays and talks about liberation. Talking about the song, Aalto said,
“The song is about your inner monsters, the tiny little creatures which feed on your insecurities and doubts. It’s about letting these things go, about being strong and not letting negative thoughts and inner demons control you. It has a deep message but it’s also a very catchy song with a twist and something you can dance to – I think it’s perfect for Eurovision!”
The live performance for Monsters in terms of singing was nothing less than magnificent but the staging could have been worked upon. Compared to the music video, in which Aalto brought the theme of “The Last Supper” to life, the live performance failed to create a visual narrative.
