'We might not be here this summer': Idaho business hit hard with inflation

Cliff's Country Market in Caldwell has been around for nearly 25 years, providing organic and non-GMO products to customers across the valley. But now, it's struggling to bring in customers.

"For the last two or three months, we're down 15 percent over a year ago," said Cliff Metcalf, owner of the country market.

Cliff said the reason is rising prices causing many customers to stray away from the prices of organic foods.

"Unless your income is going up in accordance with what the costs are, you may not want to, but be forced to go to the stores that sell other things besides organic," Metcalf said.

More than two-thirds of small businesses have had to pass along price increases to the customers, according to the National Federation of Independent Business, but Cliff says he hasn't raised prices as much as his competitors.

"Actually, I think we've increased our prices less than what I see in the supermarket percentage-wise," Metcalf said.

Still, he finds his market at the tipping point.

"We're at the point now that if business doesn't increase, we might not be here this summer," he said.
